I'm a 2nd Grader!

Look how happy these beauties and cuties look to be BIG 2nd Graders!😀

Buddy Reading on Friday

Reading his journal writing to the class

Sharing their journal writing with a classmate

We spent a lot of time this week getting further into our first units! We read several books by Cynthia Rylant. We focused on her Author's Craft and analyzed the story to determine the plot, characters, and setting. In math we used place value blocks to build two digit numbers and we learned how to represent the same number in other ways including Expanded Form. In social studies we continued our unit on communities. We watched a video and took notes of the three different types of communities and what makes them different. We also had our first Wonder Wednesday where we use our "I Wonder" journals to answer a question from Wonderopolis. This week's question was "Can you garden in the city?" We had a great time exploring the answer to that wonder! Who knew rooftops could be used for gardening?!:) In language we focused on Complete and Incomplete Sentences. We learned about Sentence Rules and the two parts of a sentence...Subject and Predicate. We use our S&P shakers to make sure both parts are there!:) In writing we continued reading Personal Narratives and charted unique qualities that this genre has which will help us when we write our very own Personal Narratives. It was a busy week for us in Room 104! So thankful for the weekend to get rested and ready for another SUPER WEEK as a SUPER SECOND GRADER!!:):)
